The workspace map

See how your docs, posts, cards and pull requests link to each other, and read them side by side from the map.

The workspace map draws everything in your workspace that links to something else: docs, posts, cards and pull requests, with a line for each link. Open it with 9 from anywhere, or with Map in the dock.

Northfold's workspace map. Drag to move around; hover a page to light its links.
  1. Each page is a point, and each line is a link between two pages. Drag to move around.

A page joins the map when it links to another page, or another page links to it. You make a link by typing [[ in a doc, a post or a chat message and picking the page.

The map shows only pages in projects you belong to. A page with no links isn't on it.

The legend at the bottom left names the four kinds, Docs, Posts, Tasks and Pull requests, each with its own shape and a count. Click a kind to hide it from the map, and click it again to bring it back. The count at the bottom right says how many linked pages the map shows.

Read a page from the map

Click a point, or move to it with the arrow keys and press ↵. The page opens in a reading pane, and the map stays where it is.

Inside a reading pane:

  • Click a link in the page to open that page in the next pane. The panes form a reading stack, so you can follow a chain of links and step back along it. The stack holds up to six pages.
  • Point at a link to see a preview of the page it goes to: what kind it is, its title, the start of its text and its project.
The preview of a linked doc, shown when you point at the link.
  1. The page's title, under its kind.
  2. Its project and when it last changed.
  • Click Show on map in the pane's header to light the page on the map.
  • Click Copy link to copy the page's address.

To close a pane, click × at its top left, or use your browser's Back. Back closes the top pane first.

Troubleshooting

Nothing in your projects links to anything else yet. Type [[ in a doc, post or message and pick a page; both pages appear on the map.

A page you expected isn't there

It has no links, or it's in a project you aren't a member of. A kind you hid in the legend is also left out; click it to show it again.

This page isn't on your map

You followed a link to local mode for a page that was removed or that's in a project you're not in. Click Whole workspace.
