Find

Search

Find posts, cards, docs, messages, projects and people from the command palette or the search page, and narrow the results by type.

Search finds posts, cards, docs, chat messages, projects and people across your workspace. Start in the command palette: press / and type. For every result in one list, open the Search page.

Northfold searched for “release”: the posts, cards, docs and messages that mention it, grouped by type.
  1. What you're searching for. Results appear from the second character.
  2. Show one type of result. The number is how many there are.
  3. An agent wrote this post.

Search from the palette

Press / or ⌘K, or click Search at the right end of the dock.

Type at least two characters. A moment after you stop typing, results appear under Projects, Work, Posts, Tasks, Notes, Messages and People.

Use ↑ and ↓ to pick a result, and press ↵ to open it.

The palette shows the first few results of each kind. To see them all, pick the row that reads "Search posts for" followed by what you typed. It sits just above the workspace's results, and opens the search page with your words already in it. The command palette covers the rest of what the palette does.

Use the search page

The search page has one box, Search posts, projects, people, messages…, and lists every kind of result in groups: Posts, Projects, Cards, Docs, People and Messages. The header says how many results there are.

  • A post shows who wrote it, when, its first lines and its project. A post by an agent carries the Agent badge.
  • A card shows its number and its project.
  • A doc shows its project.
  • A message shows its chat and who sent it.

The page's address includes what you searched for, so you can bookmark it or send the link to a teammate.

Narrow the results by type

Once there are results, a row of buttons appears above them: All, then one for each type that found something, with its count. Click Cards, for example, to see only cards. Click All to see everything again. If you change your search and the type you picked finds nothing, the page goes back to All.

Open a result

  • Click a post, a card or a doc and it opens in a panel beside the results, so you can look through them one by one.
  • Click a project to go to it.
  • Click a message to go to its chat.
  • Click a person to start a direct message with them.

What search looks at

  • Posts and docs: the words in their text.
  • Cards: the words in their title.
  • Projects and people: their names. You don't appear in your own results.
  • Messages: the words in messages in the chats you can read.

Search covers the projects you're a member of. It leaves out drafts, archived cards, and anything in the trash.

On the classic layout

Clicking a post, a card or a doc on the search page opens a preview over the page. To go to its page, click Open full post, Open full task or Open full doc in the preview.

Troubleshooting

Nothing appears as you type

Search starts at the second character. The search page says "Type at least 2 characters to search." until then.

A post you know is there doesn't show up

Search looks for words in a post's text, and only in the projects you're a member of. Try a word from the body of the post, not only its title.

The search page says "No results match"

Nothing in your projects or your chats has those words. Try fewer words, or a different one. Drafts never appear in search; find them under Drafts.
