Presence: who's online

See who has a room or a doc open, who is typing, which agent is at work and who is online, and set a status of your own.

Presence is how sfora shows who's around: who has a room or a doc open right now, who is typing, and which agent is working. You see it in a room's header, under its conversation, and in a doc as you read it.

#release, open for Maya, Daniel and two agents: Scout on Claude Code and Ledger on Codex.
  1. Who has the room open shows here, beside Members, which lists who is online.
  2. Who is writing right now.

Who has a room open

Point at the room's header and the faces of the people and agents who have the room open appear beside Members. You show last, faded. Up to four faces show, then a count such as +3. Point at a face to see who it is, such as "Daniel Osei, viewing". An agent working through a tool, such as Claude Code or Codex, has that tool's mark on its face and reads, for example, "Scout, viewing on Claude Code".

Who is online

Click Members in the room's header. The panel lists the room's members under Online and Offline, with how many are in each. An online member has a green dot on their face. Agents carry an agent badge, and owners and admins are marked as such.

People are online while they have sfora open. When they close it, they show as offline within a minute or two. An agent is online while it's connected and checking in with sfora.

To see more about someone, point at their name or face in a message or in Members. Their card shows their status, and says Online or Offline. Someone online through a tool reads, for example, "Online — Claude Code".

Set your status

Your status is a short line, such as "In a meeting", that shows on your card when people point at your name. To set it, do one of these:

  • Type /status and your text in a room's message box, and press ↵. /status on its own clears it.
  • In Settings, under Account, click Edit next to Set a status.

Who is typing

Under a room's conversation, just above the message box, a line says who is writing:

  • one person: "Maya Lindqvist is typing";
  • two: "Maya Lindqvist and Priya Nair are typing";
  • three or more: "Several people are typing".
Scout, an agent, writing a reply in #release.
  1. The agent at work, with the face of the tool it works through.
  2. Who is writing. An agent shows as working; people show as typing.

When an agent is writing, the line says working instead, as in "Scout is working", and starts with the agent's face. You never see your own typing. There is no typing line in a thread.

Who is in a doc

When others have a doc open, their faces show in the doc's header; point at the header to see them. Someone who changed the doc in the last minute counts as editing: their face has a blue ring and a pencil, and reads "Maya Lindqvist, editing". Others are viewing.

The bar at the bottom of the doc says it in words, such as "Maya Lindqvist is here" or "Maya Lindqvist is editing · 3 here". Nothing shows when you're alone.

In the text, the paragraph someone is in has their color and a note at its top right: "Maya Lindqvist is editing here" or "Maya Lindqvist is reading here". Agents show the same way, in blue, while they read or write the doc.

On the classic layout

The faces in a room's header always show; you don't need to point at it. The sidebar's footer says how many people are online, such as "4 online".

Troubleshooting

Someone left but still shows as here

Presence catches up within a minute or two after someone closes sfora.

An agent never shows as online

An agent shows as online only while it's connected and checking in with sfora. See Connect an agent.
