The wiki: pages that outlast a project
Write pages in the workspace's wiki or your team's, nest them, move and archive them, favourite them, and search the wiki.
The wiki holds what your workspace and its teams know for longer than a project lasts: how you work, your specs, your runbooks. A wiki page is a doc: you write it in the same editor, link it with [[…]], and it lists what links to it.
Each workspace has one wiki, and each team has its own:
- The workspace's wiki is for everyone in the workspace.
- A team's wiki is for the team's members only, and the workspace's owners and admins. If you're not in a team, you don't see its wiki or its pages anywhere: not in the sidebar, not in search, not as a link.
Open the wiki
In the sidebar, open the Wiki tab. It lists:
- Favourites: the pages you starred.
- The workspace's wiki, under the workspace's name.
- Each team you're in, under the team's name and key.
Each wiki shows its pages as a tree, about eight rows, then More. Click a wiki's name, or More, to open the wiki's home: its top pages, then the pages that changed lately and who changed them.
In the Home tab, each of your teams has a Wiki row under its channel. It opens the team's wiki home.
Create a page
Pick one of these:
- Point at a wiki's name in the Wiki tab and click +.
- To put the page inside another page, point at that page and click its +, or open its ⋯ menu and pick New sub-page.
- On a wiki's home, click New page.
- In a wiki with no pages yet, click Add a page.
The new page opens with the cursor in its title.
Arrange the tree
Point at a page to see its ⋯ menu. It holds New sub-page, Rename, Change icon, Copy link, Add to favourites and Archive.
To move a page, drag it:
- onto another page, to put it inside that page;
- above or below another page, to put it there.
A page can't go inside one of its own pages.
The tree works with the keyboard too. Press Tab to reach it, then:
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| ↑ ↓ | Move between pages |
| → ← | Open or close a page; step into its pages or out to its parent |
| ↵ | Open the page |
| F2 | Rename it |
| ⌥Alt↑ ⌥Alt↓ | Move it up or down among its siblings |
| ⌥Alt→ | Put it inside the page above it |
| ⌥Alt← | Take it out of its parent |
| ⇧ShiftF10 | Open its menu |
| ⌫ | Archive it |
Tab leaves the tree. The sidebar remembers which pages you left open, for each wiki.
Archive a page
Archive takes a page, and every page inside it, out of the tree. The toast that follows has Undo. An archived page keeps its link: open it and click Restore to bring it back.
On a page
A wiki page's header shows where it lives, such as Product wiki / Specs, and when it was last edited. Under the title, its byline says who edited it last, and when an agent last wrote in it.
- Star adds the page to your favourites, or takes it off.
- Share makes a page public. Only workspace pages can be shared. A team's pages are never public.
- ⋯ holds full screen, Download as Markdown and Archive page.
Under the page, Linked from lists the cards, posts and pages that link to it.
A project's section
A project's docs live in its team's wiki, as the project's section. A project with no team has its section in the workspace's wiki. In the Wiki tab, the sections come after the wiki's own pages, under a Projects line. Each one shows the project's colour and a lock: point at the lock to see Project: Editor, its members only.
A section keeps its project's access. Only the project's members and the workspace's owners and admins see it, read it or write in it, wherever it sits. A team member who isn't in the project doesn't see the section in the tree, in search, in the command palette or in links. A project member who isn't in the team still reads and writes the section.
- The project's Library shows its section: its pages, what changed lately, and Open in the wiki.
- New doc in the project makes a page in its section.
- A section page's header names the section, such as Product wiki / Editor / Launch plan, and its byline says Editor's members.
- Archiving a project archives its section with it. Unarchiving brings it back.
A page enters or leaves a section only with Move to…, because that changes who can read it. Move to… says what changes, and you confirm. A drag can't take a page across a section's edge.
The wiki for agents
Agents read and write the wiki by path, as they do docs:
/wiki/<page>.md: the workspace's wiki. A page with pages under it is also a folder:/wiki/handbook/how-we-work.md./teams/<key>/wiki/<page>.md: a team's wiki, for its members only.ls /teamslists the teams an agent is in.
A project's section is under its wiki's path too, such as /teams/prd/wiki/editor/launch-plan.md. The project's own paths keep working: /projects/editor/docs/launch-plan.md reads and writes the same page, and its reply names the wiki path.
An agent's write makes it the page's last editor, and the page's byline shows it, such as Planner wrote here 1h ago. See The file system.
Search the wiki
Press / in the Wiki tab, or click Search the wiki at its top. Search looks in every wiki you can read, or pick one. Each result says which wiki it's in and the page it's under.
⌘CtrlK finds wiki pages too, beside everything else, as page · Product wiki.
