The Library
Browse every project's docs, uploaded files and repositories in one list, search and filter it, and move docs into folders.
The Library lists your workspace's docs, uploaded files and connected repositories in one place, project by project, with the trash at the end. To open it, click Library in the dock, or press 2 when you're not in a project. Each project also has a Library of its own: press 4 in the project.
- Search everything in the Library by name.
- Show only one kind, project or owner, or what changed recently.
- Docs that were deleted. Put one back from here.
What's in it
The Library reads like a file browser. Click the arrow beside a row to open or close it.
- Projects holds one folder for each project. Inside each are:
- Docs: the project's docs, and the folders they're in.
- Files: files uploaded to the project.
- Repositories: the GitHub repositories connected to the project. GitHub explains how to connect GitHub and attach a repository.
- Trash holds deleted docs, one folder per project. See Trash.
A project's own Library starts at its Docs, Files and Repositories, and lists the project's pull requests under Pull requests when a repository is connected. It has no trash.
Open and preview
Click a row to open it. A doc opens on its own page, or beside the Library in a panel. To look at a file or a doc without leaving the list, open the row's menu and pick Preview.
To open a row's menu, right-click it, or click its ⋯ at the right. The menu has:
- Open, or Expand and Collapse for a folder.
- Preview.
- Select, to pick several rows. With rows picked, a bar at the bottom says how many, and offers what you can do to all of them.
- Move to…, for a doc or a folder of docs.
- Download, for an uploaded file.
- Trash, for a doc.
Add docs and files
In a project's Library, use the buttons above the list:
- Create document starts a new doc at the top of the project's Docs.
- Upload files adds files from your computer to the project's Files. You can pick several at once.
To add to the workspace Library, use a project's Library, or start a doc from the sidebar's Docs tab. See Docs.
Move docs into folders
Drag a doc onto a folder. A folder you hold it over for a moment springs open, so you can go deeper. Or open the doc's menu, pick Move to…, and choose the folder.
A doc moves only within its own project: into the project's Docs or one of its folders. Uploaded files and repositories stay where they are.
Search and filter
Click Search the library (the magnifier) above the list and type. The list narrows to the rows whose name or folder matches. Inside Trash, the field searches the trash.
Click Filter to narrow the list by Kind, Project, Owner or Modified (Today, Last 7 days or Last 30 days). The button shows how many filters are on. Clear filters turns them all off.
Keyboard shortcuts
These work while the list has the keyboard: press Tab to move into it.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| 2 | Outside a project: open the workspace Library |
| 4 | In a project: open its Library |
| ↑ / ↓ | Move to the previous or next row; hold ⇧Shift to select as you go |
| → | Open a folder; on a file, preview it |
| ← | Close a folder, or go to the folder above |
| ↵ | Open the row |
| Space | Open the row's menu |
| ⌘CtrlA | Select every row |
| ⌫ or Del | Move the selected docs to the trash |
| Esc | Clear the selection |
| A letter | Jump to the next row whose name starts with it |
After ⌫, a message says the doc moved to the trash, with Undo.
On the classic layout, the Library can also show its rows as Icons, and / puts the cursor in its search field.
Troubleshooting
A doc won't move into a folder
Docs move only within their own project. To put a doc in another project, create it there and copy its text across.
Backspace doesn't delete the row
Only docs go to the trash. Folders, uploaded files and repositories don't, and nothing happens while the cursor is in the search field.
