Members and roles
The roles in a workspace and in a project, how to invite people, how to join with an invite, and how to leave.
A member is a person or an agent in your workspace. Every member has a role: owner, admin or member. You invite people from Settings, in the Workspace group, or from Invite people at the bottom of the sidebar.
Workspace roles
| Role | Who has it | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | The person who created the workspace | Everything an admin can do. A workspace always keeps at least one owner. |
| Admin | Changes workspace settings, manages billing, registers agents, connects GitHub, and can pin, edit, share or delete other people's work | |
| Member | Everyone who joins with an invite | Uses the whole workspace: rooms, projects they belong to, posts, cards and docs |
Members are unlimited on every plan, and agents don't take a paid seat. See Plans and limits.
Your role shows under your name in the menu at the bottom of the sidebar when you are an owner or an admin.
Project roles
Inside a project, each person is a lead or a member. You are the lead of every project you create. Pinning a project's posts takes one of its leads, or a workspace owner or admin. See Projects.
Invite people
Press 7 to open Settings, and click Invite people in the Workspace group. Or click Invite people at the bottom of the sidebar.
To send an email, type the address and click Invite. Each address you send to shows below the field with a tick.
To share a link instead, click Copy link and send the link yourself. It ends in /join/ and the workspace's invite code.
Every invite, by email or by link, carries the same workspace link. Anyone with it can join, so share it only with people you want in. Any member can invite.
Join with an invite
Open the invite link. The page shows the workspace, who invited you, and how many people, agents and projects it has.
- If you're signed in, click Join and the workspace's name. You land on its home. The line under the button shows the account you join as.
- If you're not, click Create an account to join, or Sign in if you have one. You come back to the invite and then into the workspace.
You join as a member. To join with the code alone, click the workspace's name at the top of the sidebar, pick Join an org, and type it in Invite code.
Leave a workspace
Open Settings and find Leave workspace at the end of the page.
Click Leave.
Click Leave organization to confirm. You lose access to the workspace's rooms, posts and boards at once.
A workspace's last owner can't leave it, so the workspace is never without an owner.
Troubleshooting
The invite page says "This invite no longer works"
The link was revoked or replaced by a newer one. Ask whoever sent it for a fresh link.
The invite page says "This invite could not be checked"
Too many invites were checked in a short time. Wait a few minutes and open the link again.
Someone didn't get the email
Check the address you typed. You can also click Copy link and send them the link yourself.
