The sfora Web Clipper is a browser extension made by Wavyr B.V., the company behind sfora. It saves the web page you choose into your sfora workspace. This notice covers the extension. What you save becomes part of your workspace, and our Privacy Policy covers it from there.
1.What the clipper reads
#The clipper reads only the page in front of you, and only when you ask it to: when you click its icon in the toolbar, press its keyboard shortcut, or choose “Clip selection to sfora” on selected text. It reads nothing on its own, it runs nothing on the pages you visit, and it never sees your browsing history.
2.What it sends, and where
#When you save a clip, the clipper sends:
- the title you give it;
- the text you chose to clip (the article, your selection or the whole page), as Markdown;
- the page’s address, and its site name, author, publication date and description where the page states them.
It sends this only to your own sfora workspace, over an encrypted connection, into the project you choose. It sends it nowhere else. Images stay as links to the site they came from; the clipper does not copy them.
To show you where a clip can go, the clipper also asks your workspace for the names of the projects you approved it for, and their folders.
When you connect it, the clipper tells sfora which browser and operating system it runs on (for example “Chrome on macOS”), so you can tell your connected browsers apart in Settings. sfora also records when the clipper last used its key, and shows it there.
3.What it keeps in your browser
#The clipper keeps its key, your workspace’s name, the last place you saved to, and whether “Open in sfora after saving” is on, and, while you are connecting it, the sign-in in progress. It keeps them in the browser’s local extension storage on this device. They are not synced to your other devices. Removing the extension deletes them.
4.No analytics
#The clipper has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no error reporting. It loads no code from the internet: everything it runs is in the extension you install.
Our use of information received from the clipper adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell it, we do not use it for advertising, and we use it only to save your clips.
5.The permissions it asks for
#- activeTab: to read the page in front of you when you click the clipper, press its shortcut or use its menu item. The access ends when you leave the page.
- scripting: to turn that page into Markdown, on that click.
- storage: to keep the items listed above in your browser.
- contextMenus: to add “Clip selection to sfora” when you right-click selected text.
It does not ask for access to the websites you visit, to your tabs or browsing history, to your clipboard or to your cookies.
6.Connecting and disconnecting
#You connect the clipper by approving it in sfora, signed in to your account, and choosing the projects it may save to. It then saves as you, into those projects only. It can add new documents, draft posts and cards there. It can see the names of those projects and their folders, to offer them as places to save. It can’t read, change or delete your documents, posts or cards.
To disconnect it, open sfora’s Settings, then Connected apps, and choose Revoke next to the clipper. It stops at once. The clips it already saved stay where they are. Removing the extension from your browser deletes its key from that browser; revoke it as well to end the key itself.
7.Your clips in sfora
#Once saved, a clip is part of your workspace, like anything else you write there. Our Privacy Policy explains how workspace content is stored, how long it is kept, and your rights over it.
